The
same beautiful hotel we used for the 2007 reunion has undergone a $20 million

restaurants are nearby. Those who attended the 2007 reunion were very happy with
the accommodations here.
Harry Biela is once again host and arrangements coordinator Bob
Johnson is the reunion coordinator
Two popular
tours have been selected.

Center, Battleship Wisconsin,
Sprit of Norfolk Harbor Cruise
My wife Carol is thinking some of the women would rather go off on their own shopping, knitting or socializing without the ancient mariners for a day. If you are a friend of or spouse of the old souse and have and interest on spending the day in the company other beautiful women instead of hearing the same old sea tales (outright lies) as told by the same old blowhards please send a note to Carol at CCalvert543@aol.com Mark the heading sub-reunion.
If you missed the Virginia Beach reunion in 2003 and 2007 look back and see some of the things we again plan to do in 2010. This year the Wisconsin has been turned over to the city of Norfolk and much of the interior is going to be open for tours.
The sub trainer was a real hit. I on the stern plans managed to bounce 25 of my mates of the bottom several times. Loved it!
The Spirit of Norfolk tour includes a tasty luncheon and the cash bar is open. Last reunion here it was a real treat to sail by all the modern ships of the new navy. The water is smooth and the company a delight. Even my landlubber wife enjoyed it.
Virginia Beach has perhaps our best and most appreciated reunions. The location is very central for most of the crew; the accommodations are excellent and affordable. The weather in early October is very comfortable. For many of us strutting our stuff and exposing our best features on the beach may not cut it but the boardwalk provides a very enjoyable place to exercise with a little walk. Some very excellent and reasonable restaurants are close by.
The roads into Virginia Beech are excellent and the airport close by. Those flying in will likely be able to get a ride to the hotel from a shipmate.
For many of us the prospect of many more reunions is fading. Many have put off for one reason or another attending a reunion. Gentlemen perhaps this is the year to meet up with your beloved shipmates and share a few sea stories.

We always have a great
turnout from my era 60-62 but the friendships I have made from other years
served at reunions I treasure just as much as those of the shipmates I sailed
with. Attending Diablo reunions has been very rewarding for me personally. Some
of our shipmates attended last year in Jacksonville for the first time and were
thrilled with the experience. Please consider joining us. It is a chance to
reminisce about the most exciting time of your life, enjoy a mini vacation renew
old friendships and make new ones.
If you’re a
former spouse, family or friend of a Diablo sailor who has gone on eternal
patrol consider yourself a very welcome guest. Please join us in celebration of
our ship and our service to our country.
